ALMA VOLLEYBALL LOSES A TIGHT ONE AT SAINT MARY'S 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 27-25)

The Alma Volleyball team, a night after defeating Olivet College at Cappaert Gymnasium, traveled to MIAA league rival Saint Mary's College and lost to the Belles by a margin of 3-0. Every match was competitive and could have gone either way as the Scots lost by scores of 21-25, 24-26 and 25-27. Alma is now 4-3 overall in 2009, 1-2 in MIAA), while Saint Mary's improved to 4-4 on the season and also 1-2 in league play.

"It was a tough day for us as we played a match that we thought we had a chance to win, but give Saint Mary's credit as they played some good volleyball," said Alma Head Coach Cheyenne Luzynski. "We're disappointed because we were in a position to be victorious, but we did not execute on our opportunity. We just need to go back to work and get ready for Albion on Wednesday."

Alma led both the second and third game late, but could put the Belles away. For the Scots, Stephanie Bradshaw and Beth Caldwell led the team with nine kills, while Bradshaw also paced Alma with 16 digs. Caldwell had 15 digs, while Erica Adams had 14 and Hannah Hewitt added 12 digs and 23 sets.

The Scots will host Albion College on Wednesday evening in a 6:30 p.m. MIAA tilt at Cappaert Gynasium on Alma's campus.
