ALMA VOLLEYBALL BEATS ST. MARY'S COLLEGE 3-1

The Alma Volleyball team hosted MIAA rival St. Mary's College on Friday evening at Cappaert Gymnasium and came away with a 3-1 win (25-15, 25-21, 18-25, 25-15). The victory improved the Scots to 6-2 in the MIAA (14-6 overall) and vaulted them into a second place tie with Calvin College. The Belles fell to 5-4 in the MIAA and 12-6 overall.

The Scots were led by MH Kim Gillhespy who had 15 kills and three service aces, OH Beth Caldwell who added 10 kills and 18 digs, and S Hannah Hewitt, who finished the contest with 41 assists and 22 digs. The game, played in front of an enthusiastic Alma crowd, saw the Scots lead on the stat sheet with team totals of 50 kills and 45 assists to 36 and 34 for the Belles.

Alma next plays on Tuesday, October 7, when they travel to Albion College to take on the MIAA rival Britons. The Scots return home on October 9 to host Kalamazoo College at Cappaert Gymnasium as league play continues.
