The Alma Volleyball team hosted MIAA foe Trine University on Saturday, for what was billed as Senior and Parent's Day on campus. The Scots made the day a memorable one as they defeated the Thunder, 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-8, 25-12), to run their league record to 10-3 and 18-7 overall.
After dropping the first match, Alma focused on the task at hand and took care of business the rest of the way. Buoyed by a good-sized and vocal home crowd, the Scots took command of the match and will now turn their attention to Adrian College, where they will play on Tuesday.
As has been the case this season, it was a team effort and win, but there were some notable performances. Kim Gillhespy led the way with 13 kills, five service aces and three digs, while Hannah Hewitt paced the Scots with 40 assists. Jennifer Drumm and Beth Caldwell each had nine kills, while Jenny Bassett-Payne (19), Caldwell (15) and Katie Porter (14) contributed on the defensive digs side of the net.
