Box Score 2 The Alma volleyball team traveled to Olivet College on Saturday to play two games and came home with a split. The Scots defeated the host Comets in the first game 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-21) while falling to St. Mary's College in the second contest 1-3 (21-25, 25-21, 23-25, 20-25).
The Scots are now 9-3 in the MIAA and 17-7 overall in 2008 and play next on October 18 when they host Trine University in a league tilt.
In the first match of the day (morning) against Olivet, MH Kim Gillhespy (Cedar Springs, MI) led the way for the Scots with 15 kills, four digs and three block shots while OH Beth Caldwell (Imlay City, MI) added nine kills and seven digs. S Hannah Hewitt (Alanson, MI) contributed 34 assists in the match and DS Katie Porter (Cheboygan, MI) notched 10 digs of her own in the three-game Alma victory.
In the second of the back-to-back games Saturday, Gillhespy add 18 kills, three digs and three blocked shots and Caldwell recorded 13 kills, 22 digs and a blocked shot. In addition, Hewitt had 41 assists and 22 digs and Porter added 23 digs in the four-game setback against St. Mary's College. Also notable in the second game was OH Stephanie Bradshaw's (Livonia, MI) 15 digs and DS Erica Adams' (Milford, MI) 12 digs for the Scots.
