Alma Shutout By No. 8 Wittenberg, Defeats Denison at Wittenberg's Border Battle

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Alma College volleyball fell to 3-5 on the season with a 3-0 loss to No. 8 Wittenberg Friday evening in Springfield, Ohio. The Scots lost by scores of 30-25, 30-14 and 30-11. Alma went on to defeat Denison 3-1. Alma won the first game 30-23 before Denison came back to win the second game 25-30. Alma rattled off back-to-back wins by scores of 30-28 and 30-21.

Michigan teams are up 5-3 after the first day of Border Battle which pits teams from Michigan and Ohio against one another. No. 8 Wittenberg was defeated by un-ranked Calvin College - who defeated the Scots 3-1 earlier this week.

Today's games, combined with an MIAA loss to Tri-State yesterday (Sept. 14) and two more games tomorrow against Capital and No. 18 Ohio Northern, means the Scots will have played five matches in three days against a handful of the nation's top teams. Capital is receiving votes in the Sept. 13 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 poll.
