NOTRE DAME, Ind. - It's the end of the road for Alma College volleyball with a five game loss to St. Mary's College Tuesday evening in the first round of the MIAA volleyball tournament. Alma ends its season 16-15.
Alma won the first two games before the Belles rattled off three back-to-back victories in the first round of the league tournament. St. Mary's entered the match as the number four seed and Alma entered as the number five seed.
Alma won the first game 30-26 and game two 30-22. St. Mary's then won 30-23, 30-28 and 15-11 to advance in the MIAA Tournament.
The Scots split in their regular season meetings with St. Mary's, losing the first meeting 3-0 and defeating the Belles 3-1 in the second, most recent meeting.
Kim Gillhespy (Cedar Springs) led the Scots with 22 kills, one block solo and five block assists and Mary Murdoch (Holland/West Ottawa) led in both assists and digs with 49 assists and 25 digs.
