Scots Sweep Olivet, Top Adrian in Four Games in Saturday Doubleheader

ALMA, Mich. - Alma College volleyball picked up two more MIAA wins Saturday with a 3-0 win against Olivet College and a 3-1 win against St. Mary's in the afternoon match.

In game one against the Comets, Alma won handily in three games, 30-7, 30-28, 30-16 as Kaylee Sova (Freeland) led with nine kills while Becky Bruning (Rogers City) had eight kills. Kelsee Krull (Midland/Dow) had 24 digs to go with four service aces while Mandy Risch came on strong, recording seven service aces against the Comets.

Alma held the Comets to -.062 hitting while as a team the Scots hit .128.

In the second games, Alma win in four against St. Mary's to improve to 11-10, 8-5 in MIAA action. Alma won the first game 30-19 before St. Mary's won game two 30-25. The Scots wrapped things up in the next two games 30-22 and 30-27.

Sova again led with 18 kills while the Scots hit .186 as a unit. Kelsee Krull had 30 digs to lead in that category while Mary Murdoch (Holland/West Ottawa) had 48 assists. Kim Gillhespy (Cedar Springs) had 3 solo blocks against the Belles to go with three block assists. Freshman Kelsey Thompson (Morley/Morley-Stanwood) had one block solo and five block assists.

The Scots return to play Oct. 18 in their final home game of the regular season when they host Albion College.
