ALMA, Mich. - The Alma College volleyball team (2-12, 2-1 MIAA) lost its first MIAA match since a 3-0 loss to Hope on Sept. 12, 2003 with a 3-1 loss to Adrian tonight in Cappaert Gymnasium. It is the first loss to Adrian since the teams met in the 2001 season, 3-1.
Adrian jumped to an early two-game lead with consecutive 30-26 wins before Alma answered with a third-game win, 31-29. The Bulldogs would not be outdone, taking game four, 31-29.
The Maroon and Cream were led by senior Erin Fralick (Petoskey) with 20 kills, hitting .410 with three block assists. Erica Philp (Ubly) added 15 kills and six digs while Kaylee Sova (Freeland) had 13 kills with four service aces and 19 digs for a balanced contribution.
Alma returns to action against St. Mary's and Calvin this Saturday (Sept. 24) in Notre Dame, Ind.
