ALMA, Mich. - Alma College volleyball (2-7, 2-0 MIAA) defeated Kalamazoo Wednesday (Sept. 14), 3-2 to pick up its second win in as many days. Erin Fralick (Petoskey) led the Scots with 25 kills and two solo blocks and three block assists.
The Scots jumped to the early advantage, downing the Hornets 30-27 before the Orange and Black countered with a 30-27 decision of its own. Alma took the next game convincingly, 30-21 before Kalamazoo answered with a 30-25 win in game four. Heading to game five, the Scots used the experience in playing several of the nation's top teams in the past two weeks, edging the Hornets 15-13 to get the win and remain undefeated in MIAA play.
Fralick led the Scots, followed by sophomore Erica Philp (Ubly) with 17 kills on 47 total attacks. Mary Murdoch (Holland/West Ottawa) had 62 assists and 13 digs while Amanda Risch (Cadillac) had two service aces to go with 12 digs. Rounding out leaders were Kaylee Sova (Freeland) with 10 kills and 30 attacks and Kelsee Krull (Midland/Midland Dow) with 19 digs.
The Scots return to action this weekend (Sept. 16-17) in the Border Battle at No. 3 Wittenberg where they face Wittenberg, Mount St. Joseph, Ohio Northern and Hiram.
