ANGOLA, Ind. - The Alma College volleyball team defeated two opponents Saturday (Oct. 8) in Indiana, facing Tri-State and Adrian.
In the first match, Alma downed Tri-State 30-26, 30-26, 30-15. Erica Philp (Ubly) led the Scots with 17 kills and 41 attacks while Erin Fralick (Petoskey) added 16 kills and 25 attacks. Mary Murdoch (Holland/West Ottawa) had 46 assists and seven digs.
In the second match against Adrian, Alma won in four games 35-33, 30-26, 27-30, 30-20.
Erica Philp again led the Scots with 21 kills while three others were in double figure kills - Frlaick with 13, Lyndsey Piesko (Frankenmuth) with 12 and Becky Bruning (Rogers City) with 10. Murdoch had 51 assists and 10 digs while Kelsee Krull (Midland/Dow) led the team in that category with 26.
The Scots return to competition at Calvin on Oct. 11. Calvin is one of just two teams this season to have defeated the Maroon and Cream in MIAA competition.
