No. 18 Scots Dominate Olivet To Advance in MIAA Tourney

ALMA, Mich. - The No. 18 Alma College volleyball team defeated Olivet in three games to open the MIAA Tournament here tonight (Nov. 2). The Scots downed the Comets 30-18, 30-24, 30-6 to advance to the semi-finals of the league tournament. With the victory, Alma is now 32-0 on the year after winning the 2004 MIAA title outright with a perfect 16-0 league record. The 32 victories is a new school record - last year�s team held the title for most wins in a season with 31.

Erin Fralick (Petoskey) and Kristin Judson (Frankenmuth) combined to lead the Scots on the night as Fralick posted 15 kills with four block assists while Judson added 13 kills, nine digs, one block solo and one block assist. Sophomore Kaylee Sova (Freeland) played in one game and recorded an impressive attack percentage of .875, with seven kills on eight attempts. Lindsey Baker (Chelsea) added 44 assists and 17 digs along with a block assist to help the Scots advance in the MIAA Tournament.

The six points that Olivet was held to in the third and final game of the evening is the lowest point total the Scots have held an opponent to this season. The previous low was eight points on Oct. 26, against Kalamazoo. It marks the third time this season the Scots have held an opponent under 10 points in a full-length match. The Scots also played error-free in the third game, the first time they have accomplished the feat this season.

Olivet ends its season with a 9-24 record after finishing the league schedule with a mark of 3-13.

Alma now faces No. 4 seed Hope (19-13, 8-8 MIAA) Friday in Alma. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. The Scots host the remainder of the MIAA Tournament as No. 2 seed Calvin (23-8, 14-2) faces No. 3 seed Kalamazoo (18-10, 11-5) at 5:30 p.m., in Cappaert Gymnasium.
