GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -The undefeated No. 18 Alma College volleyball team (28-0, 16-0 MIAA) defeated Calvin College in four games (30-28, 24-30, 30-21, 30-24) Friday (Oct. 29) to claim its fourth-straight MIAA title. The Scots have won the outright title for the past three seasons and shared champion honors with Hope in 2001. Alma becomes just the second team in league history to win four consecutive championships, posting a 53-5 record over that time. Adrian is the only other team to take four-straight titles, from 1978-1981, going a combined 40-2 in that span.
The MIAA Tournament begins Nov. 1 with a play-in between Olivet and Tri-State. The winner of that game faces Alma Nov. 2 on the Scots� home court at Cappaert Gymnasium.
Alma looks to continue its winning streak when it faces Hanover at 8 p.m., Friday (Oct. 30) in the Midwest Challenge, hosted by Calvin. Alma returns to face Wheaton at 9:30 a.m., Saturday (Oct. 29). Consolation and championship rounds will follow at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively.
