ELMHURST, Ill. – The Alma College volleyball program did not have its best night on the court Friday at Elmhurst as the Scots fell to the Bluejays in straight sets.

How It Happened:
Elmhurst got off to a hot start to open the first set by scoring 18 of the first 26 points (18-8) before the Scots found some life as they clawed back to within six thanks to a pair of attack errors plus a Maggie McKale kill (24-18). Unfortunately for the Maroon and Teal that was as close as they would come with the Bluejays claiming the first set, 25-18.
 
The second set was more evenly matched with both sides trading points in the early going (6-6) before Elmhurst went up 10-7. Alma then went on to score four unanswered points to give the Scots its first lead of the night at 11-10 but the Bluejays proceeded to immediately go on a 6-0 run as the momentum swung back on their side at 16-11. Another four-point run by the visitors from Michigan cut the deficit down to one (21-20), but EU managed to take the set, 25-22.
 
Set three was controlled by the Bluejays from the opening serve, rattling off nine consecutive points to put the Scots into a hole it could not dig out of as Elmhurst swept the match with a 25-13 final set, thanks in large part to hitting .444 as a team with 13 kills and only one error.
 
Scots' Top Performers:
McKale was the primary point producer as she registered a team-high seven kills (2.33 p/s) and a .300 hitting percentage. Rudy Maynard averaged 4.33 assists per set (13 total) with a trio of digs (1.00 p/s) while Grace Steiner was the lone Scot with multiple service aces (2, 0.67 p/s). Grace Droste dug up a Alma-most five digs (1.67 p/s), added an additional four assists (1.33 p/s) and collected a half-point courtesy of a block assist.

Volleyball gets right back to work Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. ET and 4 p.m. ET as they take part in the Marilyn Scribner Invitational opposite Concordia-Chicago as well as host Wheaton (Illinois), respectively.
