Kalamazoo, MI – Alma College Softball was in action Saturday, taking on Kalamazoo College in MIAA conference play. Alma swept the day, winning 11-0 and 7-2.
Alma 11, Kalamazoo 0 (5 innings)
The game saw no scoring until the 4
th inning, when a fielder's choice saw
Katelyn Thomas score to give Alma a 1-0 lead. The advantage doubled moments later, when a sac bunt from
Kendal Holzinger scored
Camille Lozmack. The Scots led 2-0 after four innings.
In the 5
th, the game was blown wide open. Alma's scoring opened when
Jordyn Porter tripled to right field, scoring
Peyton Fether to make it 3-0. An error scored Porter, and a
Sophia Somerset RBI single to left center plated two more runs to push the gap to 6-0. Another single from
Mckenna Salley made it 7-0, and Fether put one back up the middle to score two more runs, pushing the Alma lead to nine. Porter's second base hit of the game, a single up the middle, scored another run, and a
Julia Duncan sac fly scored the final run of the game, with 11-0 the final.
Fether led with two hits and two RBI, as did
Jordyn Porter. Five other Scots added to the hit count. Alma drew five walks, and stole five bases in the win.
Morgan Westall (14-3) pitched a complete game shutout in the win. She struck out six, while allowing just two hits.
Alma 7, Kalamazoo 2
It was Kalamazoo who would open the scoring in the top of the 3
rd, with an RBI double to lead 1-0. Alma answered in the bottom of the inning, when Lozmack singled to right center, scoring Porter. Moments later, Holzinger doubled to left center, scoring Somerset and Lozmack to take the lead at 3-1. Alma would get one more run on a dropped fly ball, and lead 4-1 after three.
In the 4
th, it was Lozmack who singled up the middle again to score
Lily Thompson. Leading 5-1, Kzoo hit back in the 5
th with a run, which would turn out to be their last of the game. The Scots would tack on two more runs in the 6
th, courtesy of a Porter single and a Duncan sac fly, pulling out the 7-2 win.
Porter went 3-4 in the win, and Holzinger had a two-hit game as well, and six other Scots joined the hit parade.
Bella Treloar (2-1) pitched a complete game in the win. The sophomore allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two.
Alma is back in action on Thursday, when the Scots host the nationally ranked Thunder of Trine University.
