Tiffin, OH – Alma College Softball was in action on Monday evening, taking on Heidelberg University in their nonconference finale. The Scots were swept on the day, losing 7-3 and 7-6.
Heidelberg 7, Alma 3
Alma opened the scoring in the 3
rd inning of game one, when a
Peyton Fether groundout scored
Julia Nowicki from third base to give the Scots a 1-0 lead. The gap was doubled moments later when
Jordyn Porter hit a single off of the pitcher that allowed
Haylie Alsip to come home and score. Heidelberg tied things up in the next half inning on a two-run homer, and it was
Sophia Somerset who gave Alma the lead back, using a sac bunt to score
Katelyn Thomas from third and give Alma the lead. Unfortunately, the Student Princes were up to the task, answering again in the next half inning with a five-spot that would ultimately decide things, 7-3 the final.
Thomas was the offensive leader in the game, going 3-3 for the Scots, and five others registered a base hit in the loss.
Morgan Westall (12-3) got the start, pitching 5.2 innings. She struck out eight and allowed seven runs on nine hits and one walk.
Bella Treloar pitched 0.1 innings in relief, striking out the lone batter that she faced.
Heidelberg 7, Alma 6

stwhen Thomas grounded out to first but scored Fether from third base to put the Scots on the board.
Camille Lozmack then drove in two more runners with a double, which was then aided by a Student Prince throwing error. The play was good enough to score Porter and
Julia Duncan to make it 3-0. The Heidelberg offense was just as prepared in the bottom the 1
st, jumping on starter
Mikaylyn Kenney to the tune of five runs.
Trailing 5-3, Alma answered immediately. Heads up base running aided by a 'Berg error scored
Gen Cook from third, and the Scots got runs from a Fether groundout to second, and a Porter single to right field to take a 6-5 lead. Heidelberg tied things up in the bottom of the 2
nd on an RBI single, before the offenses quieted down. Things were scoreless into the 7
th, when the hosts would strike decisively, scoring the walk-off run on an RBI single to center field. The final score rested a 7-6.
The Scots were led by Porter, who went 3-4, and got multi-hit games from Alsip and Cook as well.
Mikaylyn Kenney started game two, pitching 1.2 innings. She allowed six runs on seven hits and one walk. Treloar (1-1) pitched 4.2 innings in relief. She allowed one run on four hits and two walks, while striking out two.
