Men's Lacrosse Outpaced by Britons

ALMA, Mich. – After closing out non-conference play, the Alma College men's lacrosse team returned to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Wednesday, April 1st, hosting the Britons of Albion College on Bahlke Field. The Scots fell behind early and were unable to overcome the difference as Alma was defeated 21-5.

The first quarter leaned heavy towards the visiting Britons as the Scots found themselves in a two-goal hole early. Alma was able to cut Albion's lead in half with a Cuyler Fielhauer goal four minutes into play, but the Britons responded often following the tally. Albion would score 11 more goals in the first to take a 13-1 lead into the second quarter. The Britons added another three in the second quarter, the only goals of the second frame.

Out of the halftime break, Albion tallied another four before Alma scored their second of the game, as Curtis Pleiness raced down the field and found the back of the net while being man-down. Albion responded with a goal of their own followed by another Scots goal as Fielhauer recorded his second of the game to open up play in the fourth. Fielhauer added another, four minutes into the fourth for his sixth hat-trick of the season. Lucas Storm added the final goal of the game with just over three minutes to play as the Scots dropped their second conference game of the season.

Defensively, Caleb Morgan led the team with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Preston Stelljes started in net, recording 15 in three quarters of play. Gaven Atkins collected two saves in the fourth quarter.

Alma will be back in action on Saturday, April 4th, as they will travel to Calvin University for a 1:00 PM faceoff against the Knights.
