ALMA, Mich. – Bringing the competition back to home field and opening Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Wednesday, March 11th, the Alma College men's lacrosse team took to Bahlke Field against Kalamazoo College. The Scots were outmatched by the Hornets, falling to defeat to a final score of 11-3.
Kalamazoo jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead scoring the first four games of the game and all the scoring in the first quarter. Alma broke the ice in the second quarter, opening the scoring for the quarter just below the 13-minute mark as Cuyler Fielhauer scored his 11th of the season on a pass from Nolan O'Dea. Kalamazoo added another two more before the halftime break, sending the Scots into the third quarter trailing 6-1.
The Hornets opened the scoring for the second half scoring two more goals in the third, taking an 8-1 lead into the fourth quarter. Kalamazoo netted the first of the fourth just 30 seconds into action, increasing their lead to eight. O'Dea was able to cut into the Hornets lead with a feed from Curtis Pleiness for the Scots second goal, bringing Alma within seven. The visitors added two more in the fourth before Alma scored the final goal of the game man-up as O'Dea scored his second of the game with an assist from Elias Rokoczy.
O'Dea led the Scots with three points, making his mark on all Scots goals for the night. Connor Cracium and Brenner Quick each scooped up four ground balls while Caleb Morgan caused three turnovers defensively. Cameron O'Bryan added another two caused turnovers as well.
Alma will return to non-conference action as they host Earlham College this Saturday, March 14th. First face-off is set for 1:00 PM.
