ANGOLA, Ind. – The Alma College football program held the high-flying Trine offense (averaged 50 points per game) to their lowest scoring effort of the season, but the offense could not keep pace as the Thunder rolled, 33-9.
The MIAA Conference defeat snapped a 14-game winning streak in league play dating back to October 5, 2024, tied with the 1966-69 squads for the longest unbeaten stretch in team history.

How It Happened:
The Thunder received the opening kickoff and swiftly moved down the field to right outside of the Scots' red zone, but a sack by
Carson Berkompas put Trine well behind the sticks and forced a turnover on downs. The first play from scrimmage for Alma was a massive chunk play down the visitors sideline as
Tyler Herzog found
TJ Seiler for a 46-yard seed that set the stage for
Jace Heck's 35-yard field goal to give the visitors a 3-0 edge. Both teams could not muster much offense on the ensuing possessions, but when TU got the ball back, they strung together enough first downs to attempt a 36-yard field goal, however, the kick drifted wide left as the Maroon and White headed into the second quarter with the upper-hand (3-0).
Â
AC went three-and-out and Trine took advantage, going 68 yards in five plays for the contest's first touchdown with 12:56 left in the first half (3-7). Alma's next drive was cut short by an interception by TyRonn Larkin which was returned to the Scots 17 with Trine capitalizing on the short field with a subsequent touchdown while doinking the PAT off the upright (3-13, 8:55 left). The Scots' next possession went backwards seven yards and TU tacked on six more following a 13-play drive that took nearly five minutes off the game clock with the extra point being missed for the second time (3-19, 3:14 left). Alma's final possession of the half looked to be in trouble when it was 1st-and-20, but the visitors in white was able to keep it alive thanks in large part to a one-handed sideline snag by Seiler, but the offense went for the touchdown on 4th-and-goal from the four put the pass fell incomplete to end the half (3-19).
Â
The third quarter opened with each defense holding serve and then TU's Emil Drake intercepted the first pass of the Scots' second drive, but the defense stiffened with a goal line stand to keep Alma within striking distance midway through the frame. Seiler made a diving, one-handed grab for the second consecutive quarter to highlight a monumental 13-play, 98-yard march into the end zone, with Herzog hitting
Ethan Hull for the score with the two-point conversion failing (9-19, 3:13 left). The momentum shift towards the Scots was short-lived however, as Trine averaged a first down per play (six plays, 65 yards) and found paydirt with 51 seconds remaining (9-26).
Â
The Scots scored a touchdown on one of their drives in the fourth quarter, but it was wiped out by a holding penalty and were forced to punt with the Thunder draining most of the clock on top of tacking on seven more points to bring the final to 33-9, Trine.

Scots' Top Performers:
Seiler had a highlight reel worthy afternoon in Angola, shattering personal-bests in both receptions (7) and receiving yards (134) with not one, but a pair of one-handed circus catches. Hull was the recipient of the Scots' lone touchdown to give him three in five games since transferring in, tying his season-high of four catches and posting 38 yards. Herzog went over the century mark as a passer for the first time at Alma, slinging the ball around for 265 yards plus a score while completing 22-of-34 (64.7%) attempts.
Â
Jett King's encore to being named to the D3football.com Team of the Week was to lead all tacklers for the second straight weekend with a dozen plus a pass breakup.
Vindarr Soffredine also hit double-figure takedowns, a career-most ten, including his first career half-sack (alongside
Drew Kanary) with
Keegan Bey and Berkompas recording unassisted sacks as well.
Â
Heck made his only kick of the day, a career-long 35-yarder to break the game's scoring seal whereas
Jacob Kluk averaged just over 40 yards per punt with a pair landing inside the red zone plus a 50-yard boot.
