ALMA, Mich. – Hosting their first of two Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association wrestling matches for the season, the Alma College men's wrestling team took the home mat against the Albion College Britons. The Scots took the first points of the night though Albion scored enough to fend off Alma, 31-17.

Jushawn Ferrell Jr opened the night up against Landon Johnson in the 125 division, proving to be a close match throughout the time. Ferrell was able to rack up enough take downs along with several escapes to clinch a victory by decision, with the final score being 12-10, scoring three points for Alma. Albion was able to respond with a win by technical fall in the next match, taking the lead from the Scots for their first of the night, 5-3. Dominic Gumtow put Alma back on top in the 141 bout with a match against Koen Eberhard. Gumtow was able to make work of his opponent and hold him scoreless as he cruised to a 15-0 tech fall win, putting Alma up 8-5. Albion would then take a lead and grow it over the next five matches, with four of the five coming by tech fall or fall and the other by major decision, pushing the score to 31-8 in favor of the visitors. Paul Wilson got the Scots back on the board in the 197 match as he took the mat against Wyatt Sieniarecki, where Wilson battled hard early on and took his chance when it was provided to pin his opponent and claim the match in 3:43, adding six more to the Scots total. In the final match of the night, Cayden Bell faced off against Bode Brown in another match that proved to be entertaining like the opener where both wrestlers were matched up well and finding success. Bell was able to double his opponents points to come away with a victory by decision, 10-5, giving Alma their 17 for the night in midweek conference action. Alma drops to 0-2 in conference matches while Albion moves to 1-0. 

Alma will now face off against another MIAA opponent on Tuesday, January 27th, as they will travel to Olivet, Michigan. Start time for the matches will begin at 7:00 PM.
