Men's Wrestling Comes Up Short in First MIAA Dual Against Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. – Returning to the mat after a month off for the holidays, the Alma College men's wrestling team opened 2026 with the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) conference dual of the season. The Scots took to the mat against Adrian College on Tuesday, January 13th, where the Bulldogs were able to pull away for a victory over Alma, with the matches leaning in favor of Adrian six to four. 

Adrian jumped out to an early 11-0 lead winning the first two matches by tech fall and fall in the 125 and 133 divisions. Alma notched their first team points of the night with a win by tech fall by Dominic Gumtow over Cole Riedel, winning 18-2 in five minutes flat. The Bulldogs then took the next three matches to increase their 11-5 lead to 26-5 recording two wins by fall and one by decision. Luke Martin scored Alma's first win by fall of the evening as he defeated Calob Heilman by pinning him in 4:07, putting Alma's team total at 11 points. Alma would also pick up a win in the 197 division as Paul Wilson defeated Shan Swank by decision, with a final score of 11-5, collecting another three points for Alma. With the score 31-14 heading into the final bout of the night, Cayden Bell scored the Scots final win by fall over Scott Smith in 6:24, giving the Scots their 20 points, falling short to Adrian's 31. 

Alma will now turn their attention towards this Sunday, January 18th, where they will host the annual Bruce Dickey Open in Art Smith Arena. Matches are set to begin at 9:00 AM.
