Alma, MI – Alma College Volleyball hosted day two of the Alma College Invite on Saturday morning. The Scots were defeated in a pair of games, losing 3-2 to Capital, and 3-0 to Concordia Chicago.
Capital 3, Alma 2
The Scots took on Capital University in the opening round of action. The Scots dropped the opening set 25-19, struggling to score consistently. Alma rebounded to take the next two sets by scores of 25-18, and 25-23. On the brink of victory, the Comets narrowly snatched the fourth set, 25-23. In the fifth and final set, Capital won 15-10 to take the match.
Alma was outkilled 66-41 in the loss, but won the blocking battle 11-1. The Scots also racked up 12 aces in comparison to Capital's seven.
Emily Carling led Alma attackers with 11 kills.
Madison Munley added eight kills,
Mallorie Nevadomski and
Nevea Bush collected six.
Rudy Maynard led with 16 set assists, and
Olivia Deeb recorded 15. Deeb was also excellent from the service line, with five aces. Carling had four, and
Makenna Johnson two.
Defensively,
Grace Steiner led with 17 digs. Johnson had 13, and Carling had 12.
Katelyn Schell headed up blocking efforts, with four solo and three assisted blocks.
Concordia Chicago 3, Alma 0
In game two, Alma faced off with Concordia Chicago. The Cougars were able to limit the Scots offensive output in a three-set sweep. The visitors took the opening set 25-23, going on to win the next two sets by totals of 25-18 and 25-21.
The Scots collected 30 kills in the loss, and were led by Carling with seven, followed by
Maggie McKale at six, and Munley at four. Deeb led with 17 assists, and Maynard had 11.
On the defensive end, Johnson had 14 digs, and Steiner 13.
The Scots look forward to opening MIAA conference play on Tuesday at Saint Mary's.
