Alma, MI – Alma College Men's Soccer hosted Anderson University on Sunday in the second half of a doubleheader at Scotland Yard. Alma was defeated by a late Ravens goal, falling 3-2.
The first half saw the teams battle back-and-forth, but nothing materialized in terms of offensive chances. The shots were 2-0 for Alma, and Anderson registered a pair of corner kicks to the Scots' zero. At halftime, the score was 0-0.
The Ravens opened the scoring early in the second half, just six minutes in. Alma responded just two minutes later in the 54th, when Brendan Dore got on the end of a Christian Cepeda cross in the box, poking it home to tie the game. The tie would last just six minutes, with the Ravens scoring again in the 60
th minute to reclaim the lead.
Anderson seemed to have the game locked up, until
Christian Sweis drew a penalty kick in the 77
th minute. The senior sent the keeper to the right, shooting left, and leveled the score at 2-2. Anderson scored what would be the game winner in the 87
th minute, and were able to run out 3-2 winners.
Alma outshot Anderson 11-5, winning the shots on target battle 6-5. The Ravens had seven corner kicks to Alma's six.
Grant Kaifas got the start in goal, saving a pair of shots.
Alma drops to 3-2-1, and looks forward to hosting Indiana Northwest on Wednesday.
