Alma, MI – Alma College Softball welcomed The University of Olivet to Scots Park on Saturday to close out their 2025 season. The Scots defeated Olivet in dominant fashion, winning 17-0 and 12-0.
Alma 17, Olivet 0 (5 Innings)
Alma opened the scoring in the 1
st inning with a
Peyton Fether sac fly to center field that scored
Reneigh Sandmann. The Scots wasted no time putting more traffic on the base paths.
Morgan Brandau doubled to left center, scoring
Jordyn Porter to make it 2-0. A wild pitch then allowed Brandau to move to third base, and
Julia Duncan to score, giving Alma a 3-0 lead. A Comets error saw Brandau score to put Alma up four, and a
Jenna Holzinger single to right-center tacked on two more runs. Leading 6-0, RBI singles from Sandmann and Fether saw the home nine leading 8-0 after the first frame.
The scoring continued in the 2
nd, when
Camille Lozmack singled home
Julia Duncan.
Jenna Holzinger then hit a sac fly to center to score
Lily Thompson. After the Scots loaded up the bases, Sandmann drew a walk to make it 11-0, and a groundout by Fether scored
Sophia Somerset. Porter singled up the middle moments later to score another pair of runs. She then came around to score on a Duncan RBI single. The Scots led 15-0 after two innings.
Alma tacked on three more runs in the 3
rd inning, with an RBI single from
Gwen Weber, and an RBI single from Sandmann capping the scoring at 17-0.
Five Scots recorded multi-hit games as Alma pounded out 14 base knocks in the win.
Morgan Westall pitched 4.0 innings in the win, striking out five.
Bella Treloar pitched 1.0 inning in relief, striking out two.
Alma 12, Olivet 0 (5 Innings)
Alma scored first in game two as well, hitting the board when Sandmann made it home on a passed ball by the Comets catcher. An RBI single from Duncan, followed by an RBI double from Brandau saw Alma leading 3-0 after one inning. The hosts tacked on another run in the 2
nd, courtesy of a
Jaycie LaValley bunt single that scored
Kylie Halverson.
In the 3
rd, Alma blew the game wide open. An Olivet error with the bases loaded allowed
Kendal Holzinger to score from third, and a fielder's choice that didn't result in an out saw another run score. Leading 6-0,
Jenna Holzinger singled off the third baseman's glove to see two more runs come in. After another Duncan RBI single, the bats took a rest with Alma leading 9-0 after three. One more run crossed in the 4
th, with Sandmann scoring Weber on a double to left center. In the 5
th, the Scots scored another run on Comet throwing error, and
Mikaylyn Kenney grabbed a bat to knock in an RBI, capping the scoring at 12-0.
The Scots collected 15 hits in the win, led by Holzinger who went 3-4 in the game.
In addition to her RBI single, Kenney pitched 4.0 innings in the win, striking out five.
Grace Main pitched 1.0 inning in relief.
Alma scored 29 runs between both games, the most that the Scots have scored against the Comets in a doubleheader dating back to 1994, when Alma plated 26 runs.
Alma ends their season at 16-18, with an 8-8 mark in MIAA play. The Scots look forward to 2026.
