Adrian, MI – Alma College Women's Wrestling headed to Adrian College to take part in the NCWWC Regional Tournament. The Scots placed 6
th of 8, scoring 52 points.
MacKenzie Burger was the only Scot to make it out of a loaded region, becoming the first in program history to qualify multiple times for the national championships.
At 103 pounds,
Paige VanSetters was defeated in the opening round, rebounding with a win over Carthage's Karina Torres. VanSetters placed 7
th in her weight class.
At 110,
MacKenzie Burger defeated Lynsey Light of Albion in the opening round, before being defeated in the championship semifinal. In the consolation bracket, Burger defeated fellow Scot
Caroline Farris via decision to advance to the 3
rd place match. The sophomore won via tech fall over Mia Moore of Aurora to place 3
rd in the weight class.
Also at 110,
Caroline Farris dropped her first two bouts of the day, going on to defeat Lynsey Light of Albion. She narrowly missed out on her first ever nationals appearance, placing 5
th in the division.
Chloe Colton competed at 117, defeating Aurora's Sharon Moreno via fall in the opening round. After falling into the consolation bracket, she defeated Sharla Juhas and Alexis Hart-Butcher of Adrian via tech fall. Colton went on to place 6
th in the class.
At 124,
MaryAlice Lynch was able to find one win on the day, a decision victory over Sophia Renteria of Adrian.
Carly Cowles opened at 131 with a win over Jennifer Villagomez of Carthage, before dropping into the consolation bracket. She defeated teammate
Virginia Chapates via fall before bowing out.
Ryen Allen competed at 138, dropping her first match of the day. She rebounded with a victory via fall over Taya Stanford of Carthage. After being defeated once more, Allen placed 5
th with a win over Carthage's Madison Cook.
MaKayla Gowell also competed at 138, scoring one victory on the day, a pin of Adrian's Samantha Bultron.
At 160,
Gabriella Allen opened with a win over Albion's Brynn Campbell via fall. After losing her next bout, Allen picked up one more win by decision over Sierra Pienkowski of Carthage.
For Alma, Burger will ready to represent the Scots on the national stage for the second time in her collegiate career next weekend.
