Rock Island, IL – Alma College Women's Wrestling hit the road over the weekend to take part in the Quad Cities D3 Invite. Alma placed 7
th out of 30 teams with 79.5 team points.
Paige VanSetters competed at 103 pounds, winning her opening match over Carissa Hersom of Wartburg by fall in 1:50, before being dropped into the consolation bracket. VanSetters rebounded with a 14-3 tech fall win over Sofia Kawano, going on to defeat Hersom via a 7-6 decision in the 7
th place match.
MacKenzie Burger competed at 110, winning her first bout over Zeel Mody of Elmhurst with a 49 second pin. Burger followed that up by defeating Rylee Touhalisky of Otterbein via a 10-0 tech fall. After being dropped into the consolation bracket, Burger won with a fall at the 3:51 mark over Mia Moore of Aurora, and pinned Schreiner's Prestejah Yokeman in 1:57. After losing in the consolation semifinal, she was defeated by
Caroline Farris via a 7-4 decision, placing 6
th in the weight class.
Farris also wrestled at 110, losing her fist bout of the day, before rebounding with a 7-2 decision win over Manchester's Jackeline Shackleford. She went on to defeat Kyley Bair of Eureka via a 1-0 decision, before taking down Hope Chiatello of Wartburg with a 10-0 tech fall. After losing the consolation semifinal, she defeated
MacKenzie Burger 7-4 to claim 5
th in the class with a decision victory.
Chloe Colton won a pair of bouts on the day at 117, defeating
Keegan Gonzalez with a pin in 1:26, before beating Nuria Kojic of NJCU via decision, 11-9.
MaryAlice Lynch won her first bout over Schreiner's Lexy Basurto with a pin at the 1:35 mark. She then pinned Andrea Rodriguez of Manchester in 37 seconds. She was then dropped to the consolation bracket, where she tech falled Ella McNamee of Simpson 10-0. Lynch went on the place 7
th at 124 pounds after winning via a 1:08 pin over Sandia Pfeil of Augustana.
Ryen Allen opened her weekend at 138 by defeating Abby Dennington with a 36 second pin. She then took down Averi Burke form Cornell with another pin, this one in 1:21. In the quarterfinal, she defeated Brooke Schuenemann via a 12-10 decision. After falling in the semifinal, Allen pinned Sydney Park from North Central in 1:49. She went on to place 3
rd after defeated Schuenemann again, this time via fall at the 2:18 mark.
At 160,
Gabriella Allen opened her tournament with a 44 second pin over Elmhurst's Yareli Ortega. She followed that up by defeated Brynn Campbell of Albion via 10-0 tech fall. After a 6-0 decision victory over Alex Harswick, Allen would go on to finish 6
th in the weight class.
Kenley Riley scored a win at 180 pounds, a 44 second pin over Cornell's Maddie Pulis.
For Alma the regular season is over, and all eyes look towards NCWWC Regionals on February 22
nd.
