Men's Wrestling Wraps Up Conference Action Against Thunder

ANGOLAInd. – The Alma College men's wrestling team wrapped up their final MIAA Conference dual of the season on Thursday, February 6th, as they faced off against Trine University in Indiana for the night. Alma took four bouts, though the Thunder came away with the win. 

Opening up the action for the night, Jushawn Ferrell Jr went toe-to-toe with Karrington Cooper in the 125 bout, battling for the duration of the periods. Ferrell Jr tallied 11 points to Coopers four to open the Scots scoring up with three points, giving Alma the first lead of the night. The Thunder would win the 133 match by decision to even up the score through two matches before Trine would tack on 15 points through the following three matches to take an 18-3 lead. Rodrick Love returned back to the mat following a solid weekend to face off against Phillip Burney, where Love would go straight to work and rack up the points. Love ultimately won over Burney by major decision (16-5), giving Alma four more points and cutting into the Trine lead. The following match, in the 174 division, Luke Martin battled hard the full time with Ben Shaffer, also pulling out win by decision, 11-5, bringing Alma within eight points. The Thunder would clinch the match with two wins by fall before the 285 bout, but Matthew Johnson was able to score a win by decision over Kyler Bills, 4-3, to give Alma their final three points and the final score of 30-13.

After wrapping up conference action, the Scots will travel to North Manchester, Indiana, for the Mid-States Invitational, hosted by Manchester University. The all-day tournament will take place on Saturday, February 15th, starting at 10:00 AM.
