UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Opening up the season on a December Friday night, the Alma College track and field team began their 2025-26 indoor season at Saginaw Valley State University on Friday, December 5th. Alma added 10 record book entries to kick off a new season.
For the Alma College women, Freshman Tess Gasiciel placed herself into the record books in the 60-meter sprint with a time of 8.40 in the preliminaries. In the freshman's first run, the 8.40 time was good for eighth all-time, looking to build upon the early success. Gasiciel also competed in the long jump where she again added her name to the top 10 list all-time. Gasiciel's longest mark of 4.94 meters placed her into third all-time. Following the freshman's solid results, MaryAlice Lynch, a sophomore, added her name onto the top 10 list in the 60-meter hurdles. Lynch ran a time of 10.12, a personal-best and good for fourth all-time in the event. Junior Lauren Brawt continued her successful career as she added her name into the record book again as well. Brawt ran a time of 2:26.86, which is now her personal best and moved up to fourth all-time in the event.
Switching to the men's side, Onction Zape, another freshman for the Scots, also set a record in the 60-meter sprint like Gasiciel. Zape raced a time of 7.06 seconds in the preliminary heat, finishing 18th overall and running the second fastest time in school history for the event. Zape added another entry to his impressive meet showing as he ran the third fastest time in school history in the 200-meter race, finishing with a time of 22.89, finishing 21st overall. Also competing in the 200 meters, senior Phillip Banner ran the seventh fastest time in the event with a time of 23.12, placing 27th at the meet. Switching to the 60-meter hurdles, junior Leland Edelyn moved into tenth overall, running a time of 9.36 and placing 25th overall. In the field events, freshman Nickolas Savoie placed 14th overall in the field of competitors with a mark of 4.05 meters, which moved him into fifth overall for indoor pole vault. In the weight throw, junior Callen Hagey threw for 14.20 meters, placing himself into fourth place all time indoors.
Alma looks to lean into the success of the opening meet of the season and come back from break to continue rewriting the record book throughout the season. Alma will return to action on January 16th as they will travel to Central Michigan University for the Jack Skoog Open.
