ALBION, Mich. – Transitioning from the indoor season to the chilly early Michigan spring outdoor season, the Alma College track and field teams competed outside for the first time of the year at the MIAA Triangular hosted by Albion College. The men's team was the highest point-getter taking first with 133.0 points and the women placed second with 129.0.
Opening with the men, Tristian Gist placed fifth and scored four team points in the 100-meter race with a time of 11.52. In the 110 hurdles, the Scots went 2-3-4 with Trace Laskey claiming second with a time of 17.14, followed by Kiefer Trimmer with a 17.47 and Leland Edelyn in fourth with a 19.03. Gist added a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters with at time of 23.94 while teammate Benjamin Daniels was close behind with a time of 24.02. Aiden Tornberg claimed a medalist finish in the 400 meters run with a time of 51.43 for seven points. Phillip Banner and Luke Martin both finished in second and third with times of 51.97 and 52.72, respectively. Edelyn picked up another top five finish with a third in the 400-meter hurdles coming in with a time of 59.67, a new personal best. Elliot Buchan was the Scots top finisher in the 800 meters with a time of 2:06.95, finishing in third, followed by Aiden Aldrich in fifth with a time of 2:10.80. Benjamin Dickieson added a fifth-place finish for Alma in the 1500-meter run with a personal best time of 4:33.94, scoring three points. Noah Murphy and Ethan Shroat added a third and fifth, respectively, in the 5000 meters with times of 17:19.14 and 17:56.86, scoring four and two points.
Looking into the field events, Callen Hagey claimed third in the hammer throw with mark season opening mark of 43.39 meters, followed by Richard Semmelroch in fifth with a mark of 38.67 meters. Alma claimed another medalist in the high jump with Joshua Oziwele taking first with a jump of 1.84 meters. Teammate Ethan Wickham finished in third with a mark of 1.73 meters. Th Javelin throw saw the Scots claim second and fourth with marks of 41.30 meters by Ed Markarian and 39.40 meters from Edelyn. Markarian claimed the top honors in the long jump with a leap of 6.49 meters, a personal best for the senior. Nick Mikesell was close behind in third with a mark of 6.24 meters as well. Another top finisher for the Scots was Nikolas Savoie vaulting over 3.80 meters for first place while Edelyn claimed third with a clear of 3.35 meters. Jerrold Atwell claimed third in the shot put with a throw of 12.20 meters. Markarian, Mikesell, Justin Goodman and Wickham all occupied second through fifth in the triple jump with marks of 12.93, 12.38, 11.56 and 11.14 meters, respectively, to round out the field events.
Alma's 4x100 meter relay team of Laskey, Banner, Daniels and Gist claimed second with a time of 44.27 and the 4x400 meter team of Aldrich, Tornberg, Banner and Martin finished first with an event-winning time of 3:31.57.
Moving to the women's events, MaryAlice Lynch finished fifth in the 100-meter run with a time of 13.69. Lynch then claimed first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.32, followed by Helena Snyder in second with 16.73 and Kaitelyn Walker in fifth with a time of 19.04. Lauren Brawt finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 27.77 and then claimed a first in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.83. Madelyn Strauss added a fourth in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:12.07. Sophia Sanford claimed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a run of 1:14.00 followed by Walker who finished fifth with a 1:27.64. Another Alma medalist was Jordan Fox in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:37.81 trialed by Kaitriss DeGroft in third with a time of 2:46.39, Stella Lampert in fourth with 2:46.45 and Rebecca Dean in fifth with a time of 2:49.50. In the 1500-meter run, Chloe Colton secured second with a run of 5:26.35. Erica Slocum finished behind Colton in fifth with a time of 5:32.56. Moving to the 5K, Melanie Werner added a third for the Scots, clocking a time of 20:02.40, followed by Colton with 20:56.45 in fourth.
Transitioning to the field events, Ella Moylan claimed the top honors in the discus throw with a mark of 34.44 meters, tailed by Sarah Krupa in second with 34.10 meters and Alisha Isenberg in fifth with a throw of 31.08 meters. Helena Snyder claimed another first-place finish in the high jump, clearing a mark of 1.57 meters. Kadyn Maida opened her collegiate career with a fourth-place finish clearing 1.43 meters. Isenberg picked up another fifth-place spot in the javelin throw, reaching a mark of 26.28 meters, a personal best. Brawt picked up her second medalist position of the day in the long jump with a winning mark of 5.16 meters, ahead of teammate Snyder who finished third jumping 5.06 meters. Lynch added a second-place finish to her resume in the pole vault, clearing 2.90 meters. Lauren McCarthy finished fourth clearing 2.75 meters and Isenberg in fifth with a mark of 2.60 meters. Moylan added a second place on the day as well in the shot put, throwing 10.40 meters.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Walker, Maida, Strauss and Kennedi Wahmhoff finished fourth with a time of 55.39 while the 4x400 meter team of Brawt, Sanford, Fox and Snyder claimed second with a time of 4:18.18.
The Scots will now have a week before heading to Oakland University of Saturday, April 4th, to compete at the Golden Grizzlies Invite. Events are expected to start at 10:00 AM and can be watched on ESPN+, with subscription.
