Men's Wrestling Scores Win Over Heidelberg at Comet Duals

OLIVET, Mich. – Returning to action after a weekend off, the Alma College men's wrestling ream took part in the Comet Duals, hosted by The University of Olivet on Saturday, November 22nd. The Scots went 1-2 on the day competing against the University of Mount Union, Heidelberg University, and Ohio Northern University. 

In the Scots first head-to-head dual of the day, facing off against Mount Union, Alma was overtaken by the Purple Raiders by a final score of 13-30. Jushawn Ferrell Jr. put the Scots in the lead first, winning the 125 match by decision, 4-2 over Mason Taylor. Alma's next win again to regain the lead came at 141 as Dominic Gumtow defeated Bryce Russell by fall in 2:00 flat, putting the Scots up 9-4. Paul Wilson was the Scots next and final win over the first dual, winning at 197 against Brayden McFetridge by major decision, 14-6, giving Alma their 13 points of the match. 

Alma rebounded after the opening dual loss with a bounce-back match against the Student Princes of Heidelberg. Alma came away with a victory in match two by a final score of 24-21. Ferrell Jr. added his second win of the day, again by decision over Lee Woods to the score of 10-5. Gumtow also notched his second win of the day, this time by tech fall with a score of 16-1 over Maddox Cade. The next two Scots wins came from Joe Dawe and Carter Melonio, both scoring their first wins of the day and both by fall. Wilson also scored his second victory of the day with his win by Major decision over Khelei Tillman, 12-4. Alma's wins were enough to give them the dual victory and moving to 1-1 on the day before matching up against Ohio Northern in the final dual of the day. 

Wrestling the Polar Bears in the final bouts of the day, Alma would be defeated by a final score of 43-8. Scoring his lone victory of the day was Ruben Rivera at 125 by tech fall, 17-2, over Will Miller, giving Alma the lead through one match. The final Scots win would come from Luke Martin at 174 by decision over Anthony Lahoski, 7-4, rounding out the victories for Alma at the Comet Duals. 

Alma will return to action on December 6th as they will travel to Ohio Northern to take place in the ONU Invitational. Matches are scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM.
