Alma, MI — Alma College Men's Soccer team hosted Calvin University on Saturday afternoon, dropping a hard-fought conference showdown by a final score of 2-0. With the loss, Alma falls to 6-9-2 overall and 0-5-1 in the MIAA, while Calvin improves to 12-3-1 and 4-1-1 in league play.
From the opening whistle, Calvin gradually asserted control. The first half ended in a scoreless draw, thanks in part to standout work from Scots netminder Bradshaw Uhlmann, who logged nine saves in the loss. As the contest entered the second half, The Knights broke through with a pair of goals in the 64th and 67th minutes, shifting momentum firmly in Calvin's favor.
Alma responded with intensity, but were unable to find the back of the net. Calvin outshot Alma 19-4, and carried the shots on goal tally 4-1. The Knights took six corner kicks to Alma's one.
The Scots remain alive in the MIAA playoff race heading into the final round of league play on Wednesday at Olivet.
