Alma, MI – The Alma College Men's Soccer Team hosted the Cougars or Cleary University. The Scots lost to the Cougars with a final score of 3-1.
The Scots started strong, creating 4 shots and a corner kick in the first 12 minutes of play, but were unlucky, ringing a shot off the left post. Cleary opened the scoring, able to convert a penalty kick in the 17th minute against the run of play. Alma continued to play well throughout the first half despite the setback. Out of halftime, the Cougars struck twice within the first ten minutes of the second half. In the 54th minute, Cleary converted their second penalty kick oif the game, and in the 54th minute scored on a counterattack leaving the Scots with a 3-0 deficit. The home 11 continued to create shots and dangerous chances throughout the game, frustrated by the Cleary netminder, who was forced into making some stellar saves to keep Alma off the board.

Mateo Cianci through on goal. Cianci finished calmly into the top left corner with his weak foot to earn his first goal of the season, which capped the scoring. Looking at the statistics Cleary had 14 shots with 8 on target, and Alma had 13 shots with 7 on target. Additionally, Alma and Cleary both had 6 corner kicks, indicating a fairly even game in open play.
The Scots fall to 1-1-0 and look to rebound this upcoming weekend against Wabash and Monmouth College at the Robbie Dreher Classic in Crawfordsville, IN.
