Olivet, MI – Alma College Softball headed down to The University of Olivet to wrap up their 2024 season on Saturday. The Scots took home a pair of run-rule wins to finish the season, 9-1 and 12-0.
Alma 9, Olivet 1 (6 Innings)
The Scots opened the scoring in the 1
st inning when a
Morgan Brandau home run scored herself,
Julia Duncan, and
Jaycie LaValley.
The lead held at 3-0 until the 3
rd inning, when a
Gwen Weber RBI single scored McKenna Salley and
Lily Malamis to make it 5-0 Alma.
The Scots plated another run in the 4
th on a
Danielle Dumoulin sac fly. The 6-0 lead grew to 8 when
Jordyn Porter doubled to left, scoring Natalie Rodriguez and
Sydni Wolverton. Porter was able to come around and score herself when
Jenna Holzinger singled to left.
Olivet plated a run in the 6
th, but it wasn't enough, and the game was over after 6 innings, 9-1 the final.
Brandau's 1-2, 2 BB, 3 RBI effort led the Scots offense, which was aided by a 1-1, 2 RBI effort from Weber, and a 2-4 game from Duncan.
Mikaylyn Kenney (12-6) pitched 5.0 innings in the win. She struck out 4 and allowed 4 hits.
Megan Krueger pitched 1 inning in relief. The senior allowed 1 hit and 1 run while striking out 2 to close out the contest.
Alma 12, Olivet 0 (5 Innings)
It took until the 2
nd inning for the 0-0 tie to be broken, but Alma was able to do it in similar fashion to game one.
Sophia Somerset crushed a 2-run homer to left field to put Alma up 2-0. A fielding error allowed
Darcy Daenzer to score later in the inning on a fielding error, and
Julia Duncan followed up with an RBI single to score McKenna Salley, bringing the score to 4-0 after 2 innings.
Alma got things working again the 3
rd.
Erin Longo singled to center field, scoring
Madison Wilkinson and
Danielle Dumoulin to make it 6-0. Somerset grabbed another RBI with a single to left field, scoring Porter. That was followed by an RBI single to center by Daenzer to score one more run. Alma led 8-0 after the 3
rd
It was the bat of Daenzer again doing the work in the 4
th inning, with an RBI single to score
Megan Krueger from third base. Leading 9-0, A Comet throwing error saw the lead swell to 11-0, as Wolverton and
Halle Mockridge came home to score. The Scots plated their final run on a wild pitch, and walked out 12-0 winners.
Daenzer was the undoubted leader on offense, notching a 3-3 outing in her final career game.
Morgan Westall (8-9) pitched 4.0 innings in the win, striking out 8 and allowing just 2 hits.
Megan Krueger pitched 1 inning in relief, striking out 1.
The Scots wrap things up at 21-15, and 8-8 in MIAA play, and look forward to 2025.
