Men's Lacrosse Opens Conference Play against Kalamazoo

ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College men's lacrosse team opened up conference play on Saturday, April 6th, against Kalamazoo College. The game was also the team's LaCROSSe Out Cancer game, raising money to fight against pediatric cancer. The Hornets came away with a win over the Scots by a final score of 17-4.

The first quarter was all Kalamazoo as they Hornets jumped out to a seven-goal lead, holding Alma scoreless through the first 15 minutes. Kalamazoo was also able to net the first two goal of the second quarter to increase their lead before the Scots broke through. MJ Humphreys got the job done for Alma as he scored the first of four Alma goals with nine minutes left in the second frame. The Scots would hold Kalamazoo to only one additional goal before halftime, bringing the score to 10-1 heading into the break.

The Hornets would score the first two goals opening the second half of play just under three minutes in. Alma got back on the board off of a Drew Gulick goal with 11 minutes left in the quarter, for Alma's second of the game. Alma would score the two of the final three goals of the game from Kevin Koenn and Humphreys, but the Hornets offensive presence early would tell the tale as the Scots would fall to 0-1 to open conference play.

Humphreys led the Scots with two points on two goals. Dylan Smith collected seven ground balls for the team high, and Patrick Hodges caused four turnovers to lead the Scots on defense. Thomas Burns played for the majority of the game making 14 saves, and Preston Stelljes saw some action and recorded one save.
