Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Lacrosse welcome Albion College to Bahlke Field on Saturday for their regular season finale. Alma celebrated their 2024 senior class pregame, but fell to Albion by a final of 16-10.
The Scots scored the opening goal of the game with an unassisted
Sam Peterson goal at 13:33 in the first quarter. Albion responded with 3 straight goals over the next 7 minutes to take the lead, with Alma pulling back within 1 thanks to a
Rileigh McGeorge goal at 1:42 to play. After the first, Albion led 3-2.
The Brits pulled out a 2-goal lead after scoring the first goal in the second quarter, and the Scots offense shot back with a
Joanna Scorziello marker at 8:18. It took just 50 seconds for Alma to tie the game at 4-4 when
Briar-Rose Mackey scored unassisted. The visitors put themselves back up by 2 with a pair of goals, and Alma closed the gap to 1 via a Peterson goal, and trailed 6-5 at halftime.
The Britons came out flying in the third quarter and scored 3 goals to balloon their lead to 4 at 9-5. Mackey scored at 7:22 to pull alma within 3. That goal kickstarted a 4-1 run by the Scots. After another Brits marker,
Kirsten Browne scored a pair of ridiculous goals 2 minutes apart. hooting on the run from the goal line, the junior somehow found the back of the net both times. Peterson capped the run 40 seconds later to drop the deficit to 1. Unfortunately, this was as close Alma would come to the lead, with Albion heading in the final quarter up 2 after an insurance marker.
The visitors scored 4 goals to open the 4
th quarter, and held Alma off the board until the 1:17 point in the contest when
Lauren Kenny scored to make it 15-10. The Britons added 1 more goal, and walked out 16-10 winners.
Sam Peterson registered a hattrick in her final game as a Scot to lead the Alma scoring efforts. The senior also picked up 4 ground balls. Browne recorded a game high 7 groundballs, also collecting 4 draw controls.
Alma finishes their season at 6-8, with a 3-4 mark in MIAA play.
