ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Alma College track and field teams competed one final time before the MIAA Field Day that is taking place on May 2nd and 3rd, looking to compete at the highest level and crown conference champions. The Scots traveled to Ann Arbor for the Concordia University-Ann Arbor Alumni Legacy meet on April 26th and 27th, seeing more positive results this spring.
On the women's side, Helena Snyder picked up a top ten finish in the 100-meter hurdles as she ran time of 15.75m, which was a new personal record, and placing sixth overall in the event. Jenna Belmas also finished top ten as she competed in the 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 1:17.93, good for eighth-place. The 4x100 relay team of Allison Wichert, Lauren Brawt, Andrea Taghon and Snyder placed third in the event, with a time of 50.86, their best time of the season to date. The 4x800 meter relay team of Sophia Sanford, Erica Slocum, Chloe Colton, Jordan Fox also had their best time of the season, 10:44.28, which placed them first in the event for the meet.
Switching to the field events, Snyder was Alma's top finisher in the high jump as she cleared the mark of 1.55 meters to place second in the field. Reagan Keyser cleared 1.35 meters to place sixth in the event as well. Mya Scott finished fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 2.75 meters, just ahead of her teammate Lauren McCarthy, who cleared 2.45 and finishing in seventh. In the long jump, Brawt came away as Alma's highest finisher with a seventh-place finish and a jump of 4.99 meters. Snyder finished just behind with a mark of 4.49 meters, placing her in tenth overall. Brawt also competed in the triple jump, where she finished fourth overall with a mark of 9.88 meters. Wichert placed right behind her teammate in fifth with a mark of 9.28 meters. Liathano Ramirez had her best finish for the meet come in the discus throw, where she finished fifth-place with a throw of 33.43 meters. Ramirez also finished seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 38.88 meters.
Jordan Williams clocked in a time of 10.99 in the men's 100-meter dash finals, finishing ninth overall with the personal record. Williams finished one spot better in the 200-meter run with a time of 22.19, good for eighth. In the 400-meter run, Landon Jennings placed sixth with his time of 51.44, Alma's top finisher in the event. Leland Edelyn collected a top ten finish in the 400-meter hurdles as he placed eighth with a tine of 1:01.07. The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Williams, Chandler Holloway, Jennings, and Devon Frenchko finished second with a time of 42.37, their best time of the season. Also, the 4x800 team of Will Maginity, Jacob Campbell, Benjamin Dickieson, and Braxton Lamey finished third with a time of 8:39.12, which was also their best time to date.
In the field events, Joseph Gonzals had a solid finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.77 meters, good for fourth-place in the event. Gonzales also competed in the long jump where he set a mark of 6.37 meters and finishing in sixth overall. Stephan Smith also finished top ten as he jumped 6.06 meters, finishing in ninth. Gonzales's best finish for the meet came in the triple jump where his best mark was 12.01 meters, and rounding out the event in third-place. Jerrold Atwell collected a top-ten finish in the shot put with a throw of 13.44 meters. Callen Hagey collected a top ten finish as well as he finished seventh overall in the javelin throw, with a mark of 38.23, a new personal record for Hagey.
Alma will now have the next several days to prepare for the MIAA Field Days, host by Calvin University. Day one of the meet is set to start at 1:00 PM, with day two to begin at 10:00 AM.
