GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Alma College men's lacrosse team traveled west for their conference match up against the Knights of Calvin University on Friday, April 19th. The Scots were defeated by a final score of 14-4.
The opening half was all Calvin to kick off the game as the Knights scored a minute in and would hold the Scots scoreless in the first two quarters, jumping out to a 13-0 lead heading into the break at half. The Scots would put themselves on the board just over three minutes into the third quarter as Cole Pearson found MJ Humphreys open and Humphreys put the ball into the back of the net for the first goal of the evening. Calvin responded with their own several minutes later, but the Scots would hold Calvin off the board following that goal for the rest of the game. With just second left in the third quarter, Kevin Koenn sent one passed the goalkeeper for his first of the game and Alma's second.
The fourth quarter saw more tallies from Alma as Koenn scored his second of the game from a feed by Dylan Smith with nine minutes left in the game, for Alma's third. The Scots final goal came from Smith just seconds after the Koenn goal as MJ Humphreys was able to set Smith up and sneak one passed the keeper for Alma's final goal of the night.
Smith and Koenn tied for the team lead in points as Smith scored and added a helper while Koenn netted two. Koenn and Humphreys tied for the team high in shots on goal, each with three while Smith had two. Drew Gulick led the Scots in ground balls with seven throughout the contest as well as Patrick Hodges and Pearson each recorded three caused turnovers, tying for the team high. Thomas Burns played the full 60 minutes between the pipes for Alma recording nine saves.
The Scots will return to the field on Tuesday, April 23rd, against Adrian College for their final home game of the season. Start time on Bahlke Field is set for 4:00 PM.
