Humphreys Tallies Hat Trick in Men's Lacrosse Defeat to MSOE

ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College men's lacrosse team played host to the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Tuesday, March 12th under the lights at Bahlke Field. The Scots and the Raiders started the game back and forth before the Raiders would slip away and defeat the Scots by a final score of 18-5.

Alma jumped on the board first as MJ Humpreys was able to drive towards the net and break the ice for the game, just less than five minutes in. The Raiders of MSOE were able to score their first of the game just three minutes later to tie the game before scoring another around the three-minute mark to take their first lead of the game. After a Raider penalty, the Scots found themselves man up in the final minute of the first quarter and Humpreys was able to notch his second of the game to tie the game at two, with the man advantage. With the score tied 2-2 after the first quarter of action, Alma looked to capitalize on the late momentum for the second frame. MSOE opened the scoring in the second quarter and ever looked back as they were able to score eight unanswered goals throughout before halftime, including a buzzer beater to head into the half leading 10-2 over the Scots.

Coming out of the break, the Scots were able to score the first goal of the second half from Humpreys for his hat trick, hoping to cut into the lead more moving forward. The Raiders responded off the next face off to take an eight-goal lead once again, slowing the Scots offensive momentum. Alma was able to battle through and score another goal less than a minute later as Lucas Storm found the back of the next to cut the lead to seven once again, giving the Scots hope again. MSOE was able to net a response shortly after, scoring the final goal of a low-scoring third quarter and headed into the fourth leading Alma, 12-4. The Raiders would add five more goals in the fourth before Alma was able to get back on the score sheet with Kevin Koenn tallying a goal with two minutes remaining in the game. The Raiders tagged on one more in the final minute of the game and Alma would drop their only night game of the season, 18-5.

Humpreys led the offense with three goals in the game. Drew Gulick and Humpreys tied for the team high in shots on goal with three apiece as Dylan Smith would lead the Scots with four ground balls in the game. Four Scots players recorded a caused turnover in the contest to tie for the team lead. Thomas Burns played the full game between the pipes for Alma, recording 15 saves and two ground balls throughout.

Alma will. Now play host to Lawrence Tech on Saturday, March 16th at Bahlke Field. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
