Softball Splits Day Two in Florida

Orlando, FL – Alma College Softball continued their 2024 season in Florida on Monday. The Scots fell to Grove City, before cruising to the win over Rose-Hulman.

Grove City 2, Alma 0

Alma's first game started slow, and quickly turned into a pitching duel. Strikeouts racked up quickly between both sides, and there was no scoring until Grove City finally broke the deadlock in the 4th. GCC scored the game's only runs on an RBI single. The Scots had several chances to tie the game up, but came up just short in the end.

Morgan Brandau went 2-3 in the loss.

Alma 8, Rose-Hulman 2

Rose-Hulman hopped on the board early in game 2. An errant throw on a steal attempt, allowed GCC's runner to score. The Fighting Engineers held the lead for less than an inning. Reneigh Sandmann tripled to open the bottom of the 1st, and was scored by Danielle Dumoulin on an RBI single to tie the game. Shortly after, a Brandau double scored Dumoulin, and Brandau was scored by Jordyn Porter. After some walks and singles, Gwen Weber drew a walk that scored a run on the loaded bases situation to put Alma up 4-1.

Alma struck again in the 2nd. With runners in scoring position, Porter smacked another RBI single to put the Scots up 5-1. Jaycie LaValley grounded out, scoring another run, 6-1. Finally, a Sophia Somerset RBI double saw Porter cross home plate to put the Scots up 7-1.

Rose-Hulman clapped back in the 4th to make it 7-2. Weber answered, scoring another run with an RBI single to close the scoring at 8-2.

Alma moves to 3-1, and sees Grove City once again, along with a talented Eastern squad tomorrow.
