Sas Breaks Career Three Point Record as WBB Wins Big Over Kalamazoo

Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball hosted Kalamazoo College in MIAA play on Wednesday night. On a night where a 27-year-old career record fell, the Scots were able to pull away from Kzoo and win 94-63.

The game opened with both teams swinging out of their corners. The teams combined for 28 points in the first 5 minutes of the game, with both sides drawing out a 14-14 stalemate. However, the scoring that kept up for Alma did not keep up for the visitors. Back-to-back threes from Cadence Kaminski fueled a 13-4 run to end the quarter with Alma leading 26-18.

The Scots scored on a pair of layups to open up the second quarter, before Kalamazoo found their scoring stride once more. An 11-5 run from the Hornets pulled the Alma lead down to 6 at 5:42. The home five responded with a 10-0 run, highlighted by three Taylor Sas layups to push the advantage to 45-29 Scots at the halftime break.

Quarter 3 started off once again as a fairly even match. Alma outscored K 10-9 in the first half of the quarter, with the numbers nearly identical for each team. However, the Scots scored on 6 of their final 7 shots in the period, going 2-2 from downtown to pull out a 14-8 run. That push allowed the hosts to push the lead to 23, with the score 69-46 after three.

Alma flexed their depth in the fourth quarter, with a number of players seeing the floor, and finding the scoresheet. One of the more interesting stat lines came from sophomore Emmerson Goodin, who collected 6 rebounds, all of them offensive boards, in just 5 minutes of play. The Scots connected on 3 three-pointers in the first half of the final quarter. Megan Leslie in particular seemed to catch fire for a short stretch, knocking down back-to-back longballs in the run. Sami Stormont's team closed on a 12-7 run to win 94-63.

A special moment came at the 5:09 mark of the 4th. Taylor Sas connected on her 2nd three pointer of the night. That strike from downtown marked the 206th three point make of Sas' career. The 206 takes down a 27-year-old record for most made three pointers in a Scots uniform.

Taylor Sas (18 Points, 3 Rebounds, 2 Assists) Maddie Robbins (16 Points, 4 Rebounds, 3 Assists) and Brooke LeRoux (10 Points, 8 Rebounds, 5 Assists) were big contributors in the win.

Alma moves to 12-12 and 8-7 in MIAA play. With the Scots final MIAA position of 5th locked up, the team looks to big home date with nationally ranked MIAA Champion Hope College to close the regular season on Saturday.
