Men's Basketball Opens Pennsylvania Trip Against Grove City

GROVE CITYPenn. – The Alma College men's basketball team completed game one of their two game road trip to Pennsylvania on Wednesday, December 18th, as they took on the Wolverines of Grove City College. The Scots pushed throughout the game to keep within distance, but would ultimately be defeated by a final score of 83-61.

Alma opened the scoring for the game and jumped out to a small lead in the opening minutes of action before the Wolverines would tie the game up and keep the game within a possession. The offense seemed to click early on for the Scots as a majority of the possessions Alma had resulted in scores to help stay ahead of Grove City. Ten minutes into the game, the Wolverines would take their first lead, but Alma would answer back to keep Grove City in check and unable to build a multiple possession lead. The Wolverines then went on an 11-1 run to pull away from Alma heading into the waning minutes of the first half, though the Scots would battle back and head into the break only down seven.

Beginning action in the second half, Grove City tacked on points early and often, though the Scots were also converting on their offensive chances to not fall too far away from their opponent. For a majority of the half, the deficit for Alma hoovered around seven to 11 points, needing some defensive stops and a couple makes. In the final five minutes, the Scots struggled to convert offensively and Grove City would piece together some offensive makes to pull away and put the game out of Alma's reach.

Leading the scoring for the Scots was Donovan Collins who painted on 21 points on seven of 14 shooting from beyond the arc.  Korbin Heitzman collected six rebounds for the team high, while Collins also led the Scots in assists with four. Paul Gadde was second in points with 11 and Joss Bradley followed behind with seven.

Alma will round out their pre-holiday road trip tomorrow, Thursday, December 19th, as they will travel to Westminster College for a 4:00 PM tip-off.
