Women's Basketball Levels Record at 5-5 With 11-Point Victory Over Wooster

Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball welcomed The College of Wooster on Wednesday afternoon for a nonconference matchup. Alma was victorious by a final of 63-52.

Wooster opened the game on a hot scoring start. The Fighting Scots shot 54% from the floor in the opening period knocking down a pair of threes as well. The visitors led throughout the first, but a buzzer beating three-pointer from Brooke LeRoux held Alma to cut the deficit to three points at 17-14.

Alma shot a consistent 35% from the floor in the first half, and the theme of the first two quarters was good open looks just not falling for the Scots. As they worked through their own shooting struggles, they forced more misses from Wooster, and managed to tie the quarter out in terms of scoring at 12-12. The visitors held a 29-26 advantage at halftime.

To open the third quarter, Alma started to connect from beyond the arc. After shooting 1-9 from three in the first half, the Scots shot 75% in the third and fourth. Although Wooster's defensive efforts made it hard for Alma to find makes from the floor, the Scots hustled hard on the boards, and got the foul line consistently to make up the difference. After three quarters, Alma held a 41-37 lead.

After the teams combined for just 23 total points in the third quarter, both offenses kicked into gear for the final period. Alma continued to pound the offensive glass relentlessly, collecting a total of 15 offensive rebounds in the game to Wooster's six. The hosts managed to pull away using a barrage of threes and second chance points, and in the end walked out 11-point winners at 63-52.

Brooke LeRoux (21 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists) Reagan Thorr (12 points, 4 rebounds) and Cadence Kaminske (11 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds) led the scoring efforts for Alma. Emmerson Goodin (13 rebounds, 8 points, 4 assists) continued to be a presence in the rebounding battle for the Scots.

Alma is off for the holiday break at 5-5, and returns to action on December 29th at Baldwin Wallace.
