Alma, MI – Alma College Volleyball continued MIAA conference play on Wednesday night, hosting Kalamazoo College. The Scots hosted the Dig Pink Game, held in partnership with the Keisha Y. Brown Angel Wings Fund, honoring those who are battling, or have been impacted by, cancer. Alma was victorious by a final of 3-1.
The Scots came out firing in the first set, taking an early 8-2 advantage. Kzoo rallied from the early punch, working to pull the deficit down to 10-7. After some back and forth, the score stood at 17-13, before the Scots pulled off an 8-0 run to take the opening set 25-13.
The second set had a much more competitive open, with the teams going point-for-point in the early action. Alma was the first to pull away however, catching fire to score 7 straight points and open up a lead at 10-5. Kalamazoo refused to go away, fighting to even the score at 12-12, and take the lead at 14-13. With the score deadlocked at 16-16, the Scots heated up once again, ripping off a 7-1 scoring run to win the set 25-19.
The Hornets weren't done yet, and Kzoo lit the Scots up early in the third set, jumping out to an 8-3 lead, and pushing the gap up as high as 11 points at 20-9. The Scots found their footing late in the set, but it was too little, too late. K took the set 25-15 to keep the game alive.
Whatever momentum Alma had lost, they found at the start of the fourth set. Alma scored the first 4 points of the set, and raced out to a 14-4 advantage. Still hot, the Scots kept their foot to the floor, leading 20-8 late in the set, before finishing things off with a commanding 25-10 set win.
