SAGINAW, Mich. – The Alma College track and field team traveled to the two-day Jet Pizza Invitational hosted by Saginaw Valley State University. The teams saw positive results including another record broken on the men's side.
Landon Jennings placed ninth in the 400-meter run with a time of 51.34. Jennings time now holds sole possession of the all-time indoor 400 record, beating the previous time of 51.69 previously held by Nicholas Fox. This is the third straight meet with a record broken for the Scots track and field teams. Ed Markarian finished third in the triple jump for the Scots, with a mark of 12.05 meters. Also in the field, Jerrold Atwell finished tenth overall in the shot put with a throw of 13.74, just shy of his personal best of 13.75 meters.
On the women's side of the action, Andrea Taghon finished in 18th place overall in the 60-meter hurdles, running a time of 10.12. Freshman Lauren Brawt finished 12th in the long jump as she recorded a mark of 4.88 meters, Alma's highest finisher. Liathano Ramirez concluded her day finishing in tenth place in the weight throw with a mark of 13.18 meters. On the multi-event side, Helena Snyder placed eighth overall in the pentathlon scoring 2697 along with Allison Wichert who finished 14th overall, scoring 2184.
The track and field teams will resume action on Friday, February 9th as they will travel to Grand Rapids to take part in the MIAA vs WHAC Challenge hosted by Aquinas College. The meet is set to take place at 5:00 PM.
