Men's Wrestling Drops First Conference Dual to Comets

OLIVET, Mich. – The Alma College men's wrestling team opened up their conference slate of the season on Thursday, January 18th, at The University of Olivet. The Scots were taken down by the comets by a final score of 38-10.

Alma fell behind early dropping the first several matches to the Comets before recording Alma's first points in the 165 bout. Samuel Rickman faced off against Gabe Guerrero and was able to score points early and often. Rickman came away victorious from the match by technical fall (16-1) and gave Alma five points towards their team total, making the score at the time 23-5. Eddie Williams would continue to find ways to win early in his season as he faced off against Gideon Loewen in the 184-weight class. Williams also won his match by technical fall (21-4) giving Alma another five points towards the team score, making the dual 32-10 at the time. The Scots would only find the two wins on the night against a tough Comet squad that has seen wrestlers ranked throughout this season. The Scots now fall to 0-1 in conference play as the Comets moved to 1-0.

Alma will now host the Alma Open this weekend inside Art Smith Arena on Saturday, January 20th, before returning to conference action next Thursday at Adrian College.
