North Manchester, IN – Alma College Volleyball took part in day 2 action at the Manchester Invite. The Scots picked up a pair of wins, hitting double digits in the win column for the first time since 2019.
Alma 3, Manchester 2
Alma's opening game was against the hosts in Manchester University. Similar to last night's opening game, this one was a battle right off of the bat. The opening set needed some overtime, with Manchester fighting their way to a 29-27 win. Alma responded with a slim margin victory of their own, taking the second set 25-23. After two sets of close battles, the Scots blew the doors open in the third. Alma jumped out to a 12-3 lead, and led by 12 on several occasions, before putting the set away at 25-12. The Spartans grabbed the fourth set at 26-24 to force a winner-take-all fifth set, where Alma took the W at 15-10.
Brooke LeRoux and
Sienna Sahr each had 16 kills, while
Callie Smith recorded 9. Sahr added a game high 3 aces.
Lexi Dykstra assisted on 28 occasions, while
Vicky Villarosa added 19.
Smith sent back 6 attacks, while
Kolbey Boyd (19) LeRoux (14) and Sahr (13) were the digs leaders.
Alma 3, Bluffton 1
The Scots took on Bluffton University immediately in game two of the day. Alma dropped the opening set 25-22. The Scots then turned around and won the next three sets in a row to win it. Alma won by scores of 25-20, 25-19, and 25-20. The big difference was Alma's defense. The Beavers hit .205 in the opening set, but Alma didn't allow them to hit over .200 for the rest of the game. The Scots even forced Bluffton to hit -.077 in the final set, with 12 errors to just 9 kills.
Brooke LeRoux grabbed 12 kills to lead the team, and
Sienna Sahr tallied 10 behind her. Alma made a living at the service line.
Lexi Dykstra led the game with 5 aces, and
Kolbey Boyd landed 4.
Lexi Dykstra led with 18 assists, and
Vicky Villarosa added 13.
Callie Smith blocked 4 attacks, with
Reagan Thorr returning 3 attacks to the sender.
Kolbey Boyd dug out 19 attacks, and Sahr recorded 14 digs.
Alma rises to 10-5, and hits a high note as they head into MIAA Play on Tuesday at Olivet.
