Albion, MI – Alma College Track and Field competed in a tri meet with Albion and Olivet on Friday. The men finished in 3rd place, while the women were 2nd.
For the men, the 4x100 team of Devin Rice, Chandler Holloway, Landon Jennings, and Devon Frenchko teamed up to take 2nd. Braxton Lamey picked up a 3rd place finish in the 1 mile with a time of 4:37.54. Landon Jennings followed that up with a win in the 400 meters, his time of 50.49 was nearly half a second faster than the next finisher. Devin Rice just missed out on a win in the 100 meter dash, coming in 2nd with an 11.03. Haydin Sims and Jacob Campbell would wrap up another double podium in the 800 meters. Sims (2:01.11) finished in 2nd, while Campbell (2:06.17) came home 3rd. Jordan Maxima scored a 3rd place finish with a 1:01.55 in the 400 meter hurdles. Rice chipped in another win in the 200 meters, and Noah Murphy picked up 3rd place in the 5000.
When it came to the field events, Austin DeRocher's throw of 12.67 placed him 5th in the shot put. Joseph Gonzales jumped a 6.46 meters to place 4th in the long jump. Gonzales placed again in the triple jump with an 11.79 meter leap to take 5th. DeRocher placed 5th in the Discus throw with a toss of 35.98. Alma scored a win courtesy of Ed Markarian, who threw a 39.32 in the javelin throw.
On the women's side, Ericka Bigham, Andrea Taghon, Victoria Gotaas, and Helena Snyder teamed up to take 2nd place in the 4x100. Cornelia Gotaas scored a podium with a 3rd place mark in the 1 mile run. Alma scored big with a double podium in the 400 meters. Ericka Bigham won the event with a 57.86, and Victoria Gotaas came in 3rd with a 1:04.37. Mya Scott followed that up with a 2nd placing 13.45 in the 100 meter dash. Cornelia Gotaas' time of 2:25.42 was good to take the win in the 800 meters. Alma made it back to back wins with a 1:07.30 from Andrea Taghon in the 400 meter hurdles. Bigham narrowly missed out on another win, placing 2nd in the 200 meters. Caleigh Winters ran to a 3rd place finish in the 5000. The Scots wrapped up one more W, with Bigham, Taghon, C Gotaas, and V Gotaas combining to take home gold in the 4x400 meter relay.
In the field, Liathano Ramirez placed 3rd in the Hammer Throw with a long of 36.13 meters. Rameriex struck again in the shot put. Her long of 10.57 meters was good for 2nd. Allison Wichert jumped 4.70 meters to take 5th place in the long jump. Mya Scott (2nd) and Lauren McCarthy (5th) each placed in the top 5 in the pole vault. Scott struck again in the javelin throw, tossing a 28.78 to take 2nd. Ramirez was in the top 5 once more with a 30.35 in the discus. Finally, Alma made up 2/3 of the podium in the high jump. Reagan Keyser took 3rd, and a clearance of 1.55 meters allowed Helena Snyder to take the win.
It's yet another great showing for the Scots, who finally got to put their product on display in favorable weather conditions. Alma looks forward to just 7 days from now, when they are back in action.
