Spring Arbor, MI – Alma College Track and Field took part in another rainy meet on Friday at Spring Arbor. The Scots took home a number of podium places and wins at the event.
On the men's side, Devin Rice claimed victory in the 100 meter dash, running a 10.99. Chandler Holloway ran an 11.19 to finish on the podium as well in 3rd place. Rice would score another victory in the 200 meter dash after blazing a time of 22.21. The Scots would go on to claim 2/3 of the podium places in the 400 meters. Landon Jennings (50.80) and Ross McNeel (53.00) took 2nd and 3rd respectively in the event. If that wasn't enough, when the hurdles came out for the 400 meters, Jordan Maxima claimed 2nd place with a 1:07.05 for yet another top 3 finish.
In the relays, the 4x100 team of Rice, Holloway, Jennings, and Devon Frenchko took home 2nd place with a 43.74. Also scoring a podium place was the 4x400 team in 3rd. The team of McNeel, Jennings, Haydin Sims, and Maxima combined for a 3:31.06.
Moving to the field events, Joseph Gonzales cleared at 1.80 meters to take 3rd place in the high jump. Gonzales also placed later in the long jump. He took 2nd with a jump of 6.15 meters. He completed his day with a win in the triple jump at 11.93 meters.
For the women, Mya Scott was the first to place, scoring a 2nd place finish with her 13.42 in the 100 meter dash. Andrea Taghon grabbed 3rd place in the 100 meter hurdles with a 16.26.
Ericka Bigham nabbed the first win of the day for Alma. Her 58.90 was good enough to win the 400 meters going away. Joining her on the 400m podium was Victoria Gotaas with a 1:03.49. Alma went on to sweep the 400 events, when Andrea Taghon (1:09.07) and Allison Wichert (1:15.63) scored a 1-2 finish in the 400m hurdles. Cornelia Gotaas made it back-to back-to back wins with her 2:26.75 in the 800 meters. Moving further into the distance events, Caleigh Winters ran a 20:02.02 in the 5000 meter run to claim 2nd place.
In relay action, the 4x400 team of Bigham, Taghon, V Gotaas, and C Gotaas took home another event win with a 4:15.84. The winning was capped off on the track with another team standing top of the podium. The 4x800 team of Ella Lavey, Jordan Fox, Victoria Hatton, and Winters ran an 11:24.72 for the W.
In the field events, Helena Snyder hit a 1.60 meter clearance to take 2nd in the high jump. Later in the program, Mya Scott picked up a second win, this time in the field events. Her 3.05 meter clearance in the pole vault was good to bring home the victory.
