Angola, IN – Alma College Track and Field headed to Indiana to take part in the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. The Scots finished 7th on both the men's and the women's sides.
The highlight of the day for Alma had to be the 400 Meters from Ericka Bigham. Bigham ran a 58.58, beating her nearest competitor by nearly a full second en route to becoming an individual MIAA Champion. Her time was also the fastest time ever run at the MIAA Indoor Championship Meet, thus giving her the meet record.
For the women, Andrea Taghon was the first to score, clocking a 9.87 in the 60 meter hurdles to take 5th place, with teammate Helena Snyder right behind her at 10.00. Then came Bigham's aforementioned victory in the 400 meters. She would strike again in the 200 meter dash, clocking a 26.67. Taghon was close behind with a 27.60 to claim 7th. The women's 4x400 meter relay picked up a 2nd place finish to round out the track events. Mya Scott finished in 7th place in the pole vault, with a clearance of 3.00 meters. Snyder would score in the field events as well with a clearance of 1.51 meters to take 7th in the high jump.
For the men, Devin Rice was the first to hit the scoreboard for the Scots. His 7.10 was good for 6th in the 60 meter dash. Landon Jennings finished in 4th place in the 400 meters, with a time of 51.77. Rice picked up another point scoring finish in the 200 meter dash, finishing 8th with a 23.10. Ed Markarian scored a 5th place finish in the triple jump with a 12.60 meter leap. Close behind him was Joesph Gonzales with a distance of 11.80 meters. Austin Derocher scored an 8th place finish in the shot put with a 13.57 meter hurl. The duo would score again in the long jump, with Gonzales (6.10m) in 6th, and Markarian (6.09m) in 7th.
This marks the end of indoor season for Alma, who will look forward to hitting the ground running in the outdoor season.
