Box Score Albion, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball took on Albion College in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Tuesday evening. The Scots fought hard, but fell 68-60, ending their season.
The Scots opened the first quarter slowly, but heated up towards the end of the frame. The visitors led 18-14 after the opening 10 minutes. Albion fought back, taking advantage of another slow start to a quarter by Alma, and led 31-30 at the break. The Scots gave up a big run early in the third quarter, but recovered well to play with the Britons down the stretch. After three, the scored was knotted at 46. The Scots would score 14 in the fourth quarter, but the Britons got a few more shots to fall, and pulled away to win 68-60.
Taylor Sas had a record breaking night, leading Alma in the loss. The junior grabbed 5 rebounds, dished 4 assists, and scored 22 points, with the 20th point taking her to a career milestone of 1000. The guard also hit 5 threes in the contest, the 4th of which gave her the single season three point record with her 63rd made three.
Brooke LeRoux shot 4-7 from beyond the arc, scoring 12 points with 6 rebounds as well. Maddie Robbins scored 9, while handing out 4 assists and pulling down 4 rebounds. Also scoring 9 was Olivia Warren, who pulled down 6 boards.
The Scots finish their season at 10-16, and will look to fight at the top of the standings next season, as almost the entire starting 5 and most of the roster is set to return.
