Box Score ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College men's basketball team jumped back into the win column on Saturday, February 11th, when they defeated MIAA rival Albion College. The Scots led the entirety of the game and defeated the Britons 73-58.
Alma broke the ice on their first possession of the game from a three by Tyshaun Walker and the Scots never looked back. Alma started the contest on an 11-4 run in the first five minutes to build up a lead. Alma slightly cooled down in the middle of the first half and Albion got within four before De' Quan Powell knocked down consecutive three pointers to extend the Scots lead back to double-digits. Including Powell's back-to-back threes, Alma put together a 13-0 run for a four-minute stretch to quiet down the Britons. Alma steadily held a double-digits lead throughout the remaining eight minutes in the first half and went into halftime with a 36-22 lead.
Offense was on both team's radar coming out of the break as points were coming in on both sides early. Alma was able to match the Britons scoring and make a few defensive stops to keep building an already strong lead. The Britons would not back down though as Alma would take a 21-point lead with ten minutes remaining in the game and Albion would chip away to make it a 14-point game with just under seven minutes. Alma would put an end to the Britons chances shortly after with more offensive pressure and converted attempts down the floor. The Scots held the Britons to 34% shooting for the game and just under 17% from downtown. Alma was also able to cause Albion to turn the ball over a total of 15 times throughout the contest.
Walker led the scoring for the Scots as he finished the game with 20. Connor Riley added another 16 to follow behind. Riley and Colton Meister both collected eight rebounds to tie for the game-high in that department. The Scots also moved the ball around well as the team recorded 11 assists, four coming from Riley to lead the team. Nate Deyman shot an impressive 66% from deep during the game for his 12 points.
Alma will be back in action on Wednesday, February 15th, when they take on Adrian College. Tipoff in Adrian is set for 7:30 PM.
